No. We learn in a circle and rotate partners. This is the best way to learn salsa.
Kirstin's Opinion - something which you feel comfortable in and that you can move in. I like to spin around in front of a mirror before I go out to make sure that what I am wearing is not too short, too low cut or too loose. I prefer to dance in heels, but you need to make sure that they will not slip off and they support you ankles. Julien's Opinion - avoid trainers! You cannot spin in them and risk hurting your knees. Sometimes it can be good to take more than one top depending on how long you will be dancing for.

All forms of dancing are good for you. Salsa is all inclusive, regardless of age, ability, background or language you can enjoy salsa. Even if you have two left feet. And its really good for you; mentally and physically. It can improve confidence, meet new people and socialise. But it also gets you moving around 3,000 steps on a pedometer per class, you do not realise that you are exercising whilst you are having so much fun.
The only way you will improve is by practice. Take as many opportunities to dance as possible:
